Why does History Repeat itself?

Ok, again I said my blog would not be political but I just cant hold back on this one. If you know anything about Costa Rica you know in recent news the ex-president Calderon just got tossed in the slammer for pinching some funds for himself that he received from a large company. I mentioned last week in a post about the United Fruit Company and how they were always paying off Central American Govt’s. It turns out Eli Black the CEO of the United Fruit Company did a dive out of is Manhattan office window after it was released that he was giving funds to govt’s of Central America. Well Calderon has not killed himself yet but he has killed his image which he made a desgrace by actually trying to run for president in the next election. I have to say to Mr. Calderon that his odds are not looking good trying to get votes from his cell block. My reason for writing this post is just the obvious facts that over time history is just repeating itself with LARGE COMPANIES and the whole MONEY TALKS way of business. I congratulate Costa Rica as a country for seeing the problem and doing something about it!!! It seems that HIV nor SWINE are not the hardest to cure diseases in developing countries, I would have to say GREED is a disease that is about as hard to cure as any.

Hotel Villa Blanca Costa Rica

If you are looking for a monestary type atmosphere with extreme peace and silence then head 40 minutes outside the Capital city of San Jose to Hotel Villa Blanca. This is an amazing area up in the cloud-forest where you just relax and enjoy the great views while sitting face to face with the clouds. I have to say it is a bit out of the way and not on the way to your normal Costa Rica tourist destinations it is sort of just out there on its own which is the beauty of this face growing touristy area. With places like Hotel Villa Blanca you can still operate a tour and make people feel that they have arrived to a country and they happen to be the first tourist to explore these lands. Enjoy your stay at Villa Blanca and Im sure you will not regret it.

I dont want to make any of my blogs political and I like to think the information I can offer readers is in the area of Costa Rica and tourism. After being down here for 9 years I have over the years been involved in former United Fruit Company Plantations trying to get community service projects going in these areas. The people are great and have suffered ever since the United Fruit just got up and left them. I heard Michael Moore say on TV last night that he told everyone that there was never any weapons of mass desctuction in Iraq and all about his new movie about Capatalism. Again I dont want to make this political and as a country I love the US and stick behind it every step of the way but I find it interesting how history repeats itself. When talking history about Costa Rica to the tourist the United Fruit Company plays a large roll being the Octopus of Central America for almost 100yrs and its leaders the “Uncrowned Kings of Central America”. If you do some research you will remember the coup in Guatamala where the United Fruit Company backed it and financed a lot of activities of it. This coup was so the govt of Guatamala would not take land from the United Fruit Company which had plenty to start with. All of this that happened help me realize that history does repeat itself. Do some research on the United Fruit Company and its involvement in the coup of Guatamala and compare it to the war in Iraq. I dont know if the decisions of war were correct or not but it is interesting the similarity of the two events.

Hotel Costa Rica “Grano de Oro”

I have had the chance to know a good number of hotels in Costa Rica working as a guide all over the country on family vacations or student travel trips. I had the chance to stay at the Grano de Oro last week and it really is a special place. It is listed as one of the top 500 best deals on the planet so getting bang for your buck is a definite. If you have traveled to Costa Rica and enjoyed the famous cookies called “Pozuelo” then you will enjoy staying in Grano de Oro Hotel. The family “Pozuelo” sold their home 19 yrs ago which what now is “Grano de Oro Hotel”. With some luck and good senses you can still smell the famous cookie in the hallways, ok so thats not true but the hotel is amazing and the outside resturaunt has some of the best wood work I have ever seen in the country.
